What is a megaflo unvented water cylinder system

The Megaflo (also known as “Megaflow”) range of unvented hot water cylinder models is manufactured by respected manufacturer Heatrae Sadia.

Manufacturing gas boilers and hot water cylinders in Warwick in the West Midlands for nearly a century, Heatrae Sadia is now part of the same large international conglomerate as other well-known names in boiler and heating system manufacture, including Baxi in the domestic boiler market, and Potterton, which specialises more in commercial installations.

An unvented hot water cylinder is fully sealed, and takes water directly from your mains supply. Now the most common water cylinder found in British homes, and designed to supply you with hot water at the same pressure as the mains feed into your home, unvented cylinders are compact and need very little pipework.

So why choose Megaflo for your unvented hot water cylinder?

What are the benefits of a Megaflo unvented water cylinder installation?

Megaflo unvented hot water cylinders are simple to install, and because of their compact size can be installed in a location that’s not too obtrusive in your property.

Unvented hot water cylinders by Megaflo (or “Megaflow”) are a popular choice for anyone who needs plenty of hot water for fast-filling baths and invigorating, powerful showers – which together might once have been considered quite a luxury!

As the Megaflo Eco is hooked up directly to your mains cold water supply, you’ll have mains pressure hot water readily available wherever and whenever you need it from hot water cylinder featuring an internal air bubble, absorbing expansion as the water is heated to eliminate the need for an external expansion vessel.

Fewer fitted parts, of course, also means that there’s less that can go wrong. The Megaflo Eco Plus models improve on their predecessors, offering an even faster water flow rate of up to 176 litres per minute. The indirect heating coils or electric heating elements fitted to these newer versions have also been upgraded, and heat up much more quickly than earlier models, giving you a continuous flow of hot water on demand.

Your plumber or heating engineer installer must be fully qualified and certified as competent to install unvented products such as the Megaflo cylinders. We will carry out a free, no-obligation survey at your home, during which we’ll ask questions to understand how your household uses hot water. After that, we’ll recommend the hot water cylinder that’s best-suited to you, your home and your budget.

Standard Megaflo Eco cylinders hold capacities of between 70 and 300 litres, while if you need or opt for one of its slimline models, the maximum water cylinder size available is 200 litres. Our engineers will advise you on the best option for your requirements and level of usage.

Is a heating system with a Megaflo water cylinder better than a combi boiler?

If you have three or more bathrooms or showers which are likely to be used at the same time – as is the case in many modern houses – then we recommend installing an unvented hot water cylinder, such as a Megaflo cylinder, as this will be able to keep up with your demand for hot water.

If you have just one bathroom, a combi boiler might be your better option. However, if you have no mains gas supply but can connected to solar panels or your electricity supply, then a Megaflo system will again make a great choice.

Is a Megaflo hot water cylinder suitable for me if I generate power from solar panels?

Most Megaflo water cylinders are heated by electricity from a mains supply. However, they are also compatible with solar thermal energy, so you may choose to use solar panels as a supplementary source of power or heat source for your Megaflo unvented water cylinder.

Do I need to have my Megaflo hot water cylinder serviced, and how often?

We always recommend that you should have any part of your heating and hot water system serviced in line with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Heatrae Sadia advises having your boiler and Megaflo water cylinder examined and serviced every year.
